You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God….You shall be called My Delight Is in Her… for the Lord delights in you. ~ Isaiah 62:3-4 ESV
When Fear Shows Up Uninvited
I could feel my heart pounding almost out of my chest as I wrestled to gain some control over my scary emotions. My breath was shallow, and I consciously fought to breathe, inhaling deeply, and exhaling longer. I knew that my turn would soon come to speak up and tell everyone what my dreams are. And I was afraid that I won’t know what to say.
As I sat quietly in a conference among other women and listened to them confidently share their dreams of what they believed God was leading them to do with their businesses, careers, ministries, families and much more. I felt lost and out of place. Feeling unease and unsettled within me because in that season of my life, I wasn’t quite sure where God was leading me.
To be honest, my life felt like I was on a standstill. Everything was on pause after experiencing burn-out from a busy life as a full-time physician, and a growing family with three little children. It was still a very blurry and cloudy season for me as struggled to fully process it all. So, I wasn’t quite sure what God was leading me to do next.
Fear, insecurity, and self-doubt threatened to silence my voice as the thoughts of what I would say about my dreams frantically flooded my mind. In that moment, I realized that I wasn’t simply afraid of what to say but I was wrestling with who I was.
We Have An Enemy Who Knows Our Potential
We may not have the same experiences, but I bet we have all had moments in our lives when we struggled to grasp the truth of who we are. That’s because we have a very real enemy who knows our potential and purpose as daughters of God. And he fights to thwart the truth with lies that make us think less of ourselves and robs our confidence to go after our God-given dreams.
The enemy doesn’t directly come after our accomplishments, talents or abilities. He deceitfully attacks the very core of our identity with lies such as;
You don’t know what you’re doing, so quit trying.
You’re not ready and you’re just going to make a fool of yourself.
When are you going to get it together? You’re a disappointment to others.
How dare you dream so big? You don’t have what it takes.
If you’ve ever felt paralyzed by the lies that you have believed about yourself that aren’t true, you’re not alone.
When You Know the Truth About Who You Are in Christ
On January 4, in the middle of a worship service, I heard the Spirit of the Lord tell me to go to Isaiah 62. And as I began to read it, the words came alive and felt as if they jumped out of the pages of the bible and pierced straight into my heart.
“You will be like a beautiful crown that the Lord holds up, like a king’s crown in the hand of your God…you will be called My Delight Is in Her…because the Lord delights in you.” ~ Isaiah 62:3-4
In that moment, I was so overwhelmed with what the Lord’s revelation to me about who I was to Him. He saw how fear, self-doubt and insecurity had minimized my confidence. And like a veil that covers the true beauty behind a thing, it made it hard for me to see the potential and purpose that He saw in me.
Suddenly, the truth dispelled all the lies that had threaten to steal my true identity as a daughter of the King. So, I want to reassure you that it’s possible to beat those lies. Even on your worst day, you are a crown of beauty and a beautiful treasure in the hands of a Heavenly Father who loves you passionately and delights in you.
Let’s fight to guard our hearts from all the lies with the truth of God’s word. We are daughters of the Most High God. We are loved, chosen, and called to be set apart for His purpose.
