“The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith [our ability to confidently trust in God and in His power].” And the Lord said, “If you have [confident, abiding] faith in God [even as small] as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree [which has very strong roots], ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea; and [if the request was in agreement with the will of God] it would have obeyed you.” ~ Luke 17:5-6 (AMP)
Are you for you? Or are you against you?
You are either your worst critic or greatest cheerleader. You either tear yourself down or build yourself up. The words you tell yourself can usher in fear or faith.
If we’re being honest, most of us would admit that we’re usually against ourselves. We tear ourselves down with our own words.
If you call yourself stupid, dumb, ugly or a fool, you are against you.
When you tell yourself there’s no solution, no hope or no nothing can change your situation, then you’re against you.
When you talk to yourself in a negative, cruel and condescending way, you’re against you.
God is for You.
Romans 8:31 tells us that, “If God is for us, who can be against us? God is for you. And if God is for you, why would you be against you?
The words you tell yourself have power. If you tell yourself something often enough, guess what? It becomes your version of the truth.
Those subtle negative remarks you mumble about yourself aren’t harmless. You are agreeing with the devil and give him a foothold.
You have a Choice.
You can choose to hold on to every offense, disappointment or past hurt, or you can choose to release it and let God mend your broken places.
You have a choice of how you will perceive and react to stress, struggles or sufferings.
You can choose to remain calm during uncertainties and hardships, and trust that God is always in control.
You can trust that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him and who are called according to his purpose.” ~ Romans 8:28.
You can entrust your cares and believe that “God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:19
You can dare to believe that God is always with you. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me. Your rod and staff they comfort me.” ~ Psalm 23:4
Increase Our Faith.
The apostle Paul tells us in Romans 10:17 that, “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
When you face a problem, remind yourself of God’s promises and provision for you. Because it is God’s word that increases our faith to overcome our fears, worries and anxieties.
Instead of focusing on how big our problems are, we can choose to focus on how big our God is. And remind yourself that He is with you and will give you everything you need to overcome your fears and struggles.
Tell yourself the truth about yourself.
Your reaction to worry can be so deeply engrained within you that it might take time to retrain your mind and attitudes.
To help you to this, set a daily reminder on your phone or write it on a sticky note and put it somewhere you can see it every day.
Write something that will remind you daily that God is for you and with you always.
You can start by personalizing Romans 8:38-39 and insert your fears and worries.
“No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither [poor health] nor [poor decisions], neither [financial debt] nor [job change], neither [today’s deadline] nor [tomorrow’s diagnosis], nor [any crisis], neither [uncertainties] nor [the unknown], nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate me from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
