As Valentine’s Day approaches and we reflect on the love that surrounds us from the special people in our lives, our spouse, our children, our family and our friends. I’m reminded that love is more than just a feeling because there are times when the feelings of love fade and we are left with a decision to love in spite of how we feel in that moment because love is a command.
Jesus said “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” ~ John 13:34
Do you realize how much you are loved? Jesus laid down his life because of LOVE for us. “…The trademark on all his works is LOVE” ~ Psalm 145:17 MSG.
Love is more than just a feeling. It’s sacrificial, selfless and never gives up.
In I Corinthians 13:4-7 (MSG),
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God. ~ 1 John 4:7-10 MSG.
LOVE has a name, JESUS!
