Rest is Not Optional – It’s Vital!

Recharge or Shut Down.

Have you ever caught a glimpse of a beautiful moment that got your attention and you knew instantly that this was a picture worthy moment? A keepsake.

So, you quickly pull out your phone to capture this special moment, but your phone fails to take a snapshot.

You are frustrated not only by the pop-up message on your phone which tells you that your storage is full, and you need to free up your storage in order to have room to capture this moment. But because you have missed the opportunity to capture this moment.

A phone can only hold so much information and perform so many functions simultaneously. And when the battery is low, the phone sends a flashing signal to warn you of it’s remaining energy reserve.

So that you better get a power source to recharge or else – well there’s no other option. If not recharged, the phone shuts down when it has expended all of its energy.

Your Capacity.

Just as a phone has a certain capacity and only so much information it can store, we too have a unique capacity level. And our capacity depends on our experiences, seasons of life and our personality.

Have you ever wished that your body would give you a signal, to warn you that your energy reserve is running low? Or that you’re getting close to your limit and capacity?

Well, if we’re honest, it does. Our bodies give us all kinds of signals to warn us that we’re reaching the limit of our capacity and need to stop and recharge. But we ignore all the warning signs and keeping pushing ourselves until our body is forced to shut down.

Rest is Vital.

Rest is not optional. Life is constantly draining us, and we must stop to recharge, or else our body will shut down, to enforce rest so that it can refuel and recover.

We can’t have it any other way. Rest is vital for our physical, emotional and spiritual health.

It is deeply necessary for our sanity, productivity, creativity, effectiveness, relations and overall wellbeing.

Sacred Rest.

What kind of rest do you need? Physical, emotional or spiritual rest?

Isaiah 40:29 TLB says, “He gives power to the tired and worn out, and strength to the weak.”

Jeremiah 31:25 NLT says, “For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.”

The truth is, we can’t have rest apart from God. He is one who infuses power into our tired and worn out lives and strengthens us when we’re weak.

The rest that we need and seek can only be found in Him. And it encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual. It is complete rest.
